Bulk carrier Smart Lisa damages three vessels at Humen Port after blackout

Smart Lisa bulkerThe bulk carrier Smart Lisa got blackout and lost propulsion power, when entering Humen Port in Guangdong, China. The crew was unable to handle the dead inertion and the bulk carrier collided with three vessels at the port waters. One of the affected by collision vessels was a cargo barge, which suffered large breaches, started getting water ingress and sank. The general cargo vessel Zhe Xing Hang 96 and working vessel Yue Hui Zhou Gong 663 were also seriously damages and breaches, but remained afloat. Fortunately, despite of the many damages, during the accident there were no injured people and no water pollution.

The local authorities succeeded to stabilize the bulk carrier Smart Lisa, which also had some breaches, but remained afloat. The vessel was its crew were detained until further investigation. The traffic at the port was seriously hampered due to the barge wreck. The local authorities are monitoring the area for any water pollution and oil leak. The salvage operation of the barge will be considered during the next days.

The bulk carrier Smart Lisa (IMO: 9696840) has overall length of 180.00 m, moulded beam of 30.00 m and maximum draft of 10.10 m. The deadweight of the vessel is 38,400 DWT and the gross tonnage is 24,585 GRT. The bulk carrier was built in 2015 by Kouan Shipbuilding in the shipyard at Tiazhou Jiangsu, China. The owner and operator of the ship Smart Lisa is Nanjing-based Tranglory Shipping.
