The bulk carrier Purple Beach started getting water ingress in engine room at the dock of Wilhelmshaven, Germany. The crew reported the water authorities about the accident with danger of grounding and sinking. At the scene of the accident were dispatched two firefighting teams, which assisted with pumping out the water and normalizing the water level in the engine compartment. The divers inspected the underwater hull of bulk carrier Purple Beach and found that leak comes from starboard cooling pipe, which was patched and water ingress was stopped. The situation on board was normalized and firefighters succeeded to dry the engine room.
The engineering and propulsion system of bulk carrier Purple Beach will be inspected after complete drying of the engine compartment. Following the water ingress, the vessel should pas special survey before return in operation. Fortunately during the accident there were no injured people and no water pollution.
