Bulk carrier Anda Raya with 44000 tons of fertilizers grounded in Indonesia

Anda Raya agroundThe bulk carrier Anda Raya grounded in Gresil port area, Indonesia. The vessel was proceeding to the berth, but due to human mistake grounded into a sandy mud shallow out of the fairway. The ship was loaded with 44,000 tons of fertilizers on board, but fortunately did not suffered damages and did not spilled any of the cargo. The bulk carrier Anda Raya hardly stuck and was not able to refloat by own power and requested assistance from the local authorities. At the scene of the accident was dispatched tug, but salvage will be started after underwater survey and ensuring of stability and seaworthiness of the vessel.

The local authorities started investigation for the root cause of the accident. The ship is still grounded, as salvage needs of special preparation and high tide. The anti-pollution teams are on standby to assist in case of oil or cargo spill into the water. Fortunately during the accident there were no injured people.

The bulk carrier Anda Raya (IMO: 9116670) has overall length of 189.90 m, moulded beam of 32.30 m and maximum draft of 11.50 m. The deadweight of the ship is 49,016 DWT and the gross tonnage is 27,763 GRT. The vessel was built in 1996 by Oshima Shipbuilding in their shipyard in Saikai, Japan. The owner and operator of the ship is Ming Wah Shipping.
