WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – The United States and 22 other countries will launch a powerful anti-drug operation in the western hemisphere with the deployment in the Caribbean Sea and the South Pacific of military reinforcements by the navy and the air force, President Donald said Trump.
“Today the United States is launching an anti-narcotics operation in the western hemisphere to protect the American people from the deadly scourge of drug trafficking,” Trump said at a press conference at the White House.
The president added that “we must not allow the drug cartels to exploit the (coronavirus) pandemic to threaten the lives of Americans. In cooperation with 22 allied nations, the US Southern Command will increase surveillance, interceptions and confiscations of drug shipments and will further support eradication efforts that are underway at a rate never seen before. “
Trump added that his country is deploying more combat ships, planes and helicopters, Coast Guard patrol boats and Air Force surveillance vehicles, doubling the capabilities that the United States already has in the region.
The United States could build two more giant hospital ships as the duo currently dispatched to New York and Los Angeles amid the pandemic of the new coronavirus, President Donald Trump told reporters.
“These ships really made an impact, a very positive impact … So we are seriously considering building two additional ships of approximately the same size,” Trump said.
The Navy Comfort and Mercy hospital ships have 1,000 beds each; They currently treat non-infectious patients by allowing local doctors to focus on fighting coronavirus.
On the other hand, Trump said his administration is considering temporarily restricting domestic flights and train travel to U.S. cities to prevent a further spread of COVID-19.
Donald Trump said he hopes Russia and Saudi Arabia will negotiate a solution to the current oil market crisis in the coming days .
“I think they are going to solve it in the next few days; it is too easy not to achieve it,” the president said at a press conference.
Trump also assured that he knows how to solve the crisis.
Moscow and Riyadh “are negotiating, they are talking. And I think they will find a solution. If they cannot, then I know how to solve it,” said the president.
“We do not want to lose our fantastic oil companies, I want this industry to return to what it was,” he added.
Additionally, National Security Adviser Robert O’Brien said the United States will work with the world’s largest oil producers to address volatility in the markets.
