USS Wasp with a Large Cargo of F-35B Arrives in the Philippines for the Balikatan 2019 Exercise

Balikatan 2019 will also bring together ASEAN members for an International Observer Program. The objective of the program is to promote greater defense cooperation with ASEAN and other key partners and partners; show multinational coordination where observers can mutually exchange meaningful ideas and best practices; and show the joint and combined operation of air, sea and land of the AFP and the United States forces.

This year’s Balikatan focuses on maritime security and amphibious capabilities, as well as on multinational interoperability through military exchanges. Exercises such as Balikatan strengthen international associations and the capabilities of the participating military to respond quickly in unison to crises throughout the Indo-Pacific region.
