The Ukrainian authorities appealed to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in connection with the detention and arrest of 24 sailors after the incident in the Kerch Strait area.

“The Government of Ukraine has fulfilled the instructions of the Court and filed a full statement on January 7, 2019,” wrote Ivan Lishchina, Deputy Minister of Justice of Ukraine, on ECHR.

According to him, Ukraine asks the European Court to declare illegal the detention of three ships and 24 Ukrainian sailors, bringing the latter to criminal responsibility and their detention in Russian penitentiary institutions.
