Ukraine And Turkey Commanders Discuss Cooperation In The Naval Defence

In the framework of the international exhibition IDEF 2019 taking place in Istanbul, the commander of the Naval Forces of Ukraine, Igor Voronchenko, discussed with the commander of the Naval Forces of the Republic of Turkey, Adnan Özbal, the bilateral cooperation, informs the press service of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.  

“The leaders of the fleets discussed the priority areas of military cooperation in the naval sphere. In particular, they discussed the mutual visits of the Naval Forces of the Republic of Turkey and the Naval Forces of Ukraine to the ports, including visits to the Tuzla port (Göldzhuk) of Ukrainian training boats, “the statement said.

It is noted that during the meeting priority issues of regional security, development of cooperation in the Black Sea region were determined. The parties highlighted the importance of supporting the military dialogue, in particular the future joint PASSEX trainings and participation in the Sea Breeze exercises.  

According to the press service, the commanders of the Naval Forces also discussed issues of exchange of information about the superficial situation in the framework of the Black Sea Harmony operation of the Naval Forces of the Republic of Turkey.

The Ministry of Defense also recalled that the practical cooperation of the Ukrainian fleet with the Republic of Turkey was founded in 1995. Last year, Odessa was visited by five ships and a submarine of the Turkish Navy, including as part of the permanent groups of NATO, during the Ukrainian-American Sea Breeze exercise. In 2019, it is planned to hold the IV meeting on the organization of military cooperation between the Ukrainian and Turkish Navies.
