In eight years, from 2011 to 2018, the Secretariat of the Navy reported the arrest of 90 people, including three women and two minors; as well as eight vessels linked to hydrocarbon theft.
According to the information obtained through Transparencia, 44 of the detainees, five of them stopped in Tabasco waters, and the rest in Tamaulipas, Veracruz, and Campeche.
The information obtained through Transparencia by Grupo Cantón, highlights that the first vessel stopped in Tabasco was 292 thousand 472 liters of hydrocarbon, the largest amount seized by the Mexican Navy in the Gulf, in the last six years.
While the largest amount of hydrocarbon insured to these people occurred in 2014 on the coast of Tamaulipas, with 64 thousand liters of hydrocarbon.
With respect to the eight vessels detained, four of them were insured in Tabasco. The first three boats arrested for the theft of hydrocarbons were made on Tabasco coasts.One of them in 2012, and the other two, shrimp boats in 2014. The rest of the boats were stopped in Campeche, Tamaulipas and Quintana Roo.
Data obtained by Grupo Cantón through transparency refer to how the Ministry of the Navy has increased over the years the number of elements, vessels and aircraft assigned to the surveillance of the territorial sea, including the Gulf of Mexico. In this area of the country, the Secretariat of the Navy is assigned to a total of 919 elements. A number higher than the 907 that registered in the year 2016. For previous years, this dependency indicates not having data.
