Iran Will Hold Naval Exercises in the Strait of Hormuz

Iran will hold new maritime exercises called Velayat 97 in the Strait of Hormuz, announced the commander of the Naval Force of the Persian country, Rear Admiral Hosein Khanzadi.

“The Velayat 97 large-scale exercises of the Naval Force of Iran will start tomorrow [February 22] and will last three days,” he was quoted as saying by the Iranian Army press service.

Khanzadi said the maneuvers will extend from the Strait of Hormuz to the Indian Ocean.

The exercises, he said, will consist of four stages, one of which will simulate maritime war conditions.

The warships will take part in warships, submarines and aviation, he added.

In addition, he said, it is planned to launch missiles.

Iran regularly carries out maneuvers in that area through which it crosses the main oil transport route in the region.
