Container Ship Maersk Spills Oil While Loading Fuel in Hong Kong

A Maersk container ship spilled oil into the sea while loading fuel at the Kwai Chung container terminal (Hong Kong). Specifically, the spill was reported at 05:30 hours (local time) on January 6 while oil tanker Carlung was supplying the ship Maersk Gateshead with bunker .

Cleaning operations have been carried out throughout the day yesterday and today, containing what, according to local sources, would be a spill that already covers a few kilometers in the South China Sea.

The Maersk ship, with a capacity of 4,340 TEUs, had arrived in Hong Kong on Saturday and the fuel supply was being carried out during the night of January 5 and early morning of January 6.
