Work Has Begun In Breaking Down The Kathryn Spirit

Since January 2018, about 20 workers have been working on the “Kathryn Spirit” in Lake Saint-Louis in Beauharnois, Québec, Canada. They removed the walls, the door frames, the suspended ceilings, etc. The various materials, which were stacked on the ground, will be sent to approved sites.

The stripping of the ship was expected to be completed in mid-February, after which the workers will begin cutting up the steel. This step will only be possible once the Canadian Coast Guard has obtained Environment Québec’s certificate of authorization.

The workers were on schedule to have the vessel removed from the site in September 2018. In 2016, the Groupe St-Pierre was awarded a first $ 7.9 million contract to erect a cofferdam to stabilize the wreck, and a second contract of $ 11.1 million in October 2017 to dismantle it.
