The Turkish Defense Ministry has begun construction of a naval base on the Black Sea in the Trabzon region in the north-east of the country, RIA Novosti reports.
The facility will be the ninth base of the Turkish Navy. Turkey currently has naval bases in Mersin and Iskenderun in the Mediterranean, in Akzas and Focha in the Aegean Sea, in Golcuk on the Sea of Marmara, in Eregli on the Black Sea, as well as in Istanbul and Canakkale in the Bosphorus and Dardanelles straits.
It is noted that 400 military and 200 civilian specialists will work at the base.
