With a known maximum depth of 11,034 meters, the Mariana Trench is the deepest place in the oceans of our planet. To date, only three people have been able to reach this inaccessible place: two explorers in 1960 and the filmmaker James Cameron in 2012.
Now, however, the American company Tritan Submarines, with the help of a costly submarine of 48.2 million dollars, plans to get there and all the deepest areas of each of the five oceans of the world.

Its name is Triton 36,000 / 2 Hadal Exploration System and, according to the company, it is the only certified commercial submersible for repeated trips at depths of 10,000 meters.
In relation to its capacity, the submarine can fit two people. However, in his mission he will not be alone, a 68-meter fall pressure support vessel with capacity for 47 passengers and crew will accompany him.
This colossus weighs 11.2 tons and you can glide smoothly to a depth of 10,000 meters for less than 2.5 hours. Despite its great mass, this submersible ends up being much lighter than the deep diving models of the past.
It also has a titanium pressure head of 3.5 inches thick that has been built with the latest technology. Triton has been subjected to tests in Russia that simulate conditions equivalent to those presented at 13,000 meters (20% more than the maximum depth in the Marianas Trench).
It is safe?
At a dam conference, engineer John Ramsey has confirmed that there is no possibility that a person who is 11 kilometres below the surface can be rescued in time in case of an emergency. For this reason, they have been more concerned with safety to the maximum.
“We have done everything possible so that the submarine can become entangled in injectable objects so that all the propellers can be released and the manipulator can break free and fall, the batteries can come off,” Ramsey said.
In the hypothetical case that the 12 batteries fail, the weights of the submarine’s main ballast will be released so that it rises to the surface. It is important to mention that Triton has been designed to withstand up to 12 hours underwater.
The submersible is also equipped with enough oxygen for four days and a system that removes carbon dioxide that accumulates inside. Even if an electrical fault occurs, Triton has an analog system that would work as a backup.
