BALEÀRIA INCORPORATES ITS SECOND ECO FAST FERRY ON THE ROUTE BETWEEN EIVISSA AND FORMENTERA. DATA FROM FEBRUARY AND MARCH INDICATE THAT THE ECO AQUAREDUCED CO2 EMISSIONS BY AROUND 35%.
Four months after the Eco Aqua began to operate, Baleària incorporated Eco-Lux, the second eco fast ferry of the series of four that are destined to cover this route, to the Eivissa-Formentera route.
The new vessel has the same characteristics as the first, among which the latest generation engines, solar panels for the onboard services subministry and a polyester hull reinforced with fibreglass, which is more environmentally friendly since it does not require painting.
These are eco-efficient innovations that are already yielding their results. Thus, comparing with the ships of the Maverick series (which until recently operated this line) the February and March data indicate that the Eco Aqua reduced the CO 2 emissions by about 35% . On the other hand, it is worth mentioning that the engines that the ships incorporate make noise pollution of them non-existent. These catamarans, built in the Gondán Asturian shipyards, are characterized by a wave-piercing prow, with lateral water evacuation tunnels that guarantee greater reliability and comfort in adverse sea conditions.
They have 28 meters in length, capacity for 350 passengers and are prepared to sail at speeds of up to 27 knots, which allow the crossing to be completed in half an hour. It is expected that before the summer begin to operate the other two ships that are missing, in Eco Terra and the Eco Air; This will allow Baleària to make a qualitative leap in its services, combining reliability, comfort and speed with respect to the environment on this route. Sustainable tourism project
The names of the new ships refer to the elements that, according to the classics, make up nature, and whose equilibrium depends on the sustainability of the planet. Baleària has framed these four vessels in the Pangea project, an initiative of social responsibility in defence of sustainable tourism among the Pitiusas. Each of the vessels is linked to one of the values of Baleària and one of the Sustainable Development Goals (which the shipping company has taken as a roadmap to guide its activity), while the Eco Aqua is linked to the commitment to the environment and SDG 13 (Climate Action), the Eco Luxit refers to commitment to employees and SDG 8 (decent work and economic growth).
In this regard, it should be noted that in all the ships of the series the workers are residents in Eivissa and Formentera, which allows them to sleep at home, and also facilitates family and work conciliation by changing the usual system of longboarding periods. and rest for a day or two of weekly rest, according to the season.
The architectural design of the ships has been carried out by Oliver Design, and in its construction improvements have been implemented for the accessibility and comfort of the passengers at the service of a better travel experience, such as a solarium exterior cover, free Wi-Fi connection, audiovisual programming or space for the transport of bicycles and mopeds (which in the case of being electric can be loaded free of charge on board). In addition, to minimize the energy footprint, biodegradable utensils and utensils are used in the boats, as well as biodegradable cleaning products.
