Senate Authorizes Departure of Elements of the Mexican Navy for Velas Latinoamericana 2018

To participate in the instructional cruise “Velas Latinoamericana 2018” that begins on February 11

Mexico City – The Senate authorized the departure of 237 elements of the Navy-Navy of Mexico, to participate in the training cruise “Velas Latinoamericana 2018″that begins on February 11 as part of the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Games 1968 Olympic Games.

With 76 votes in favor, the request of the United Commissions for Foreign Affairs and Navy was green- lighted, so that the elements of the Mexican Navy are part of the event.

In addition, the Navy will participate in the nautical event organized by the Chilean Government within the celebration of the Bicentennial of the Jura of its National Independence.

The School Ship “Cuauhtémoc” will also travel to Havana, Cuba as part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the Mexico 68 Olympics, from September 2 to 15.

At the international level, the Armed Forces are coordinated to carry out plans and study programs in order to put into practice the knowledge obtained by the students, in the case of Mexico, at the Heroic Naval Military School and allow their significant development.

With the aim of strengthening the professional and operational relations of the Mexican Navy with other countries, the Heroic Naval Military School selects fourth-year cadets to participate in nautical events.

As part of those naval exercises, the Federal Executive will request the Secretary of the Navy, Admiral Vidal Francisco Soberón Sanz, a report on the results of the trip aboard the Sailing School Ship “Cuauhtémoc”.

According to the request, the High Chamber hopes that the participation of Mexico in this event will allow us to draw friendly ties and bring the message of peace and good will of the Mexicans in the military naval field.

Velas Latinoamericana 2018

The Mexican elements of the Navy will return to their home port in Acapulco, Guerrero on October 12.
