The commander of the Eastern Integral Defense Strategic Region (Redior), Admiral William Serantes Pinto, reported that they seized a total of 147.5 kilograms of cocaine on a vessel with the flag of Panama on the docks of the José Antonio Anzoátegui Petrochemical Complex, located between the municipalities Fernando de Peñalver and Simón Bolívar of the eastern entity.

Serantes said that troops of the Inspectoría General of the Bolivarian National Guard (GNB) showed 124 packages of the substance on the outside of the submerged hull of the José Progress vessel.

The Redior authority maintained that military officials detected the cache when performing routine underwater inspections. He explained that criminal gangs evade land routes because of the frontal struggle against drug trafficking.

He added that during this year it is the first seizure executed in floating units in the Anzoátegui state.

In the social network Twitter, it was disclosed that the ship was destined for Belgium. They pointed out that 20 crew members of the boat are being held preventively.
