The sailors of the Turkish company Akdeniz Roro Deniz, which transported fruits and vegetables from Turkey to the ports of Novorossiysk and Gelendzhik, received a salary for which several months of debt exceeded 109 thousand dollars. About this reports TASS with reference to the press service of the Russian Trade Union of Seafarers.

According to the press service, in Novorossiysk, in connection with the failure to comply with the requirements of the Maritime Labor Convention (KTMS), several vessels of the Turkish company Akdeniz Roro Deniz were detained. The ships are in poor technical condition, and the crew is often “forgotten” to pay salaries. The joint efforts of the Azov-Don Regional Trade Union Organization of Seafarers and the State Port Control Inspectorate (PSC) of Novorossiysk made it possible to pay off many months of debt.

“Five Georgian sailors from the ship My Rose were repatriated from Istanbul, they were paid a debt of 26 thousand dollars. The senior mechanic of the ship Ural received a salary for four months – 12 thousand dollars. For three months, the crew of Aurelia was paid 71 thousand dollars, Amazon seamen were also paid several months’ salary, ”the message says.

According to the press service, the crews of the vessels – 10-15 people, most of whom are citizens of Turkey, Georgia and Russia. Salary sailor or minder does not exceed $ 700. Due to technical problems, ships often are delayed by the PSC inspection.

“The work of state port control deserves separate words. His attention to violations of the requirements of the Maritime Labor Convention is very important. This not only helps to return money to seafarers, but also demonstrates the most important thing – the KTMS in Russia works, and state port control can influence shipowners, ”the press service quoted the words of the inspector of the International Federation of Transport Workers in Novorossiysk, Olga Ananina.
