The Information Center (ISC) of the Regional Association for Combating Piracy and Armed Ship Robbery in Asia (ReCAAP) reports seven armed attacks on vessels in July 2018. This is what the telegram-channel “International shipping” writes.
Five of the seven recorded facts of attacks are associated with small robberies of ships standing at the berth or at anchor.
In comparison with June, when there was only one attack on a merchant ship, the activity of robbers increased.
In total, from January to July 2018, ReCAAP reports on 47 incidents: 36 attacks and 11 attempts of armed attacks. This is 4% less than for the same period in 2017. The total number of such incidents in 2018 is the lowest in the last 10 years.
However, the report ReCAAP notes that in January-July 2018, the number of attacks committed in the Strait of Malacca and the territorial waters of Singapore increased.
