More Than Two Tons of Salmon Seized from Poachers in Kamchatka in Four Days

Employees of the North-Eastern Territorial Administration of Rosrybolovstva for the period from May 26 to 29 seized more than two tons of salmon from poachers in Kamchatka, the ministry’s press service said on Wednesday.

So, in the Ust-Bolsheretsky district of the Kamchatka Territory inspectors on Tuesday discovered a poachers mill, where they seized almost a ton of redfish.

“On the shoreline between the Bolshaya River in the estuary and the Sea of Okhotsk, a poaching mill with vehicles has been discovered. Nearby were filled trays of freshly caught fish – 800 kg of sockeye salmon and 14 kg of chinook, “the report said.

An illegal salmon catch, vehicles, networks are seized and placed in custody.

“All collected materials regarding poachers will be transferred to the police to initiate proceedings under art. 256 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Illegal mining (catch) of aquatic biological resources with causing major damage, using a self-propelled transport floating device at spawning grounds or on migratory routes to them), “the press service stresses.

The sanction of this article provides for up to two years of imprisonment.

More Than Two Tons of Salmon Seized from Poachers in Kamchatka in Four Days

As reported, the salmon path in 2018 will begin on the eastern coast of Kamchatka from June 1. On the west coast, the main route starts from 10 to 20 July.
