The USS Iwo Jima amphibious assault-class assault ship will arrive on the Israeli coast for a joint military exercise between the two countries, Israeli defense forces said today.
The ship will be controlled by 1,400 marines, 1,100 naval sailors, 25 airplanes and three hovercrafts.
The Israeli army indicated that the Juniper Cobra 2018 exercise focuses on improving the combined capabilities of ballistic missile defense.
Simultaneously, exercises will be conducted with 650 US Marines who will descend from the ship to the coast.
The Juniper Cobra 2018 began on March 4 with the participation of 2,500 US troops stationed in Europe and 2,000 troops, logistics units and medical forces of the Israeli air force.
The Iwo Jima, from Mayport, Florida, is currently assigned to the Sixth Fleet of the United States and carries out naval operations near Europe.
The Iwo Jima has transport capabilities and can operate several amphibious attack tools while keeping a safe distance from the coast.
In addition, the ship has tools and systems that allow the landing of aircrew while sailing. The landing port measures around 257 meters.
