The largest miner of the moment, VLOC Ore Tianjin , was delivered last March 22 to its owner Valemax. We share with you a documentary video about its construction.
It has been built at Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding Heavy Industry, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, for China Merchants Energy Shipping and ICBC Leasing.
This VLOC ( very large ore carrier ) has a deadweight of 400,000 tpm and is the first of a series of ten mining companies ordered by Valemax in 2016, of which the Chinese shipyard will build four. Another four of the Valemaxes will be built by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS), and the remaining two will be assigned to China Merchants Heavy Industry
It has been designed by the Institute of Research and Design of Ships of Shanghai, has a length of 362 m, sleeve of 65 m and prop of 30.4 m.
Its speed is 14.5 knots and is classified by ABS and CCS. Compared with Valemax’s first generation VLOC, it has reduced daily fuel consumption by 20 t, a 30% reduction in transportation costs. It is prepared for the use of LPG as a fuel, which can save transport costs up to 30% and reduce pollution widely.
The loading mechanism allows to load 400,000 tons of ore in 16.7 hours. Its load capacity is equivalent to 6,666 refrigerated wagons.
