The North Caucasus military district has convicted the former soldier of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation Leonid Parkhomenko in a treason case, Interfax reports.

“To recognize Parkhomenko guilty of treason and impose a penalty of 14 years in a penal colony and deprivation of the officer’s rank,” said the judge.

The state prosecutor asked for the defendant 15 years of imprisonment, the lawyer – to recognize the defendant as innocent.

According to the investigation, during the period of military service under the contract in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in the position of assistant chief of the military unit, Parkhomenko for two years (2003-2005) had access to the information that makes up the state secret. In the same period, for money, he gave out this information to the services of a foreign state.

Parkhomenko did not admit his guilt.

In November 2016, the FSB of the Russian Federation reported on the detention of a former Black Sea Fleet headquarters soldier in Sevastopol. According to the intelligence service, the captain of the second rank of the Parkhomenko reserve, fulfilling the task of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, collected and transferred to the foreign intelligence service state secret information about the activities of the Black Sea Fleet.
