An Indonesian, a diver was killed trying to retrieve human remains from passengers on the Lion Air flight, which crashed on Monday off the coast of Indonesia, with 189 people on board.
Syachrul Anto, 48, a volunteer with the Search and Rescue Agency, died during the decompression process.
“He was found by other members of the team, who were able to take him to the surface and place him in a decompression chamber,” Chief of the Agency, Isswarto, told AFP on Saturday.
Rescuers are searching Monday in the Java Sea, where the Boeing 737 MAX 8 of the low-cost company, which had entered service just a few months earlier, fell.
Shortly before the accident, the crew requested authorization to return to Jakarta, where it had taken off about ten minutes earlier.
On Thursday, the teams managed to recover one of the black boxes but they continued this Saturday looking for the second, which records what happens in the cockpit and could help to understand what happened.
