Military officials say a 28-year-old man from South Florida was killed in an accident involving two US fighter jets that crashed into the coast of Japan.
The United States Marine Corps said in a statement issued Friday that Capt. Jahmar F. Resilard of Miramar, Florida, died in Thursday’s accident. Another member of the crew was found and is in acceptable condition. Another five are still missing.
Resilard was an F / A-18 pilot with the 242 Squadron of All Weather Attack of the Navy and was stationed at the Iwakuni Marine Infantry Air Station in Yamaguchi, Japan.
The family members told NBC 6 that they planned to meet with Resilard in Maryland for Christmas, but now they are making funeral plans.
“For me it has been bittersweet, once again, he lived his dream. I wanted to be a pilot, not just a pilot, but a fighter pilot , “mother Joni Moore-Resilard told NBC 6 in a telephone interview Friday.
The Marines said in a statement that the two planes were involved in routine training, including refueling, but that they were still investigating what caused the accident.
