Container ship “Sparta”, which left Novorossiysk with a military cargo for Syria, passed through the Black Sea straits in the Mediterranean on Sunday, local information portals published photographs of the passage of the vessel across the Bosporus.
According to them, a ship capable of carrying no less than 450 heavy containers is sent to the logistics base of the Russian Navy in the Syrian port of Tartus.
In the current month, large amphibious ships of the Russian Navy Yamal, Minsk, Alexander Ozerkovskiy and a transport vessel of the auxiliary forces of the fleet Kyzyl-60 passed through the Black Sea straits with cargo to Syria.
According to foreign media reports, the BDK and vessels of the Russian Navy’s auxiliary fleet are participating in an operation called the Syrian Express for the delivery of ammunition to the Russian air group at the Khmeimim air base near Latakia and the Syrian government army fighting Islamists, including the so-called “Islamic State” (a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation).
