Russian President Vladimir Putin in a telephone conversation expressed to the President of Argentina Mauricio Macri the words of support in connection with the disappearance of the San Juan submarine in the Atlantic Ocean and offered assistance in search and rescue operations. This was announced on Wednesday by the Kremlin press service.
“In a telephone conversation, the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, expressed to the President of the Argentine Republic Mauricio Macri the words of support in connection with the situation with the missing submarine San Juan in the Atlantic Ocean. On the Russian side, it was proposed to provide appropriate assistance in search and rescue operations. It is agreed to maintain contacts on this score between the defense ministries of both countries, “the report said.
In addition, the heads of state discussed topical issues of further development of cooperation between Russia and Argentina.
The diesel-electric submarine San Juan, on board of which there are 44 crew members, stopped contacting on November 15. According to information of the Argentine Navy, active search for the submarine began on the evening of November 16. The next day the operation was expanded to search and rescue.
As Argentine Foreign Minister Jorge Fory has reported, Argentina, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Spain, the United States, France, Norway, Peru, the United Kingdom and Uruguay have already provided “various kinds of assistance” in connection with the disappearance of the submarine.
