Russia banned navigation and shipping in Kazan, Moscow, St Petersburg and Sochi from 12:00 to 24:00 local time during the matches of the FIFA Confederations Cup 2017. The Ministry of Transport issued Order No 197, which prohibit shipping in the areas due to enhanced security measures and danger from terrorism. The sports event starts on June 17 and will last until July 2, during which period a lot of restrictions will be applied and the security levels in the cities will be raised.
According to the order, the following areas are prohibited for navigation:
– Black Sea, adjacent to the city of Sochi, bounded by an arc of a circle with a radius of 10 km from the stadium Fisht.
– In St. Petersburg in the water area immediately adjacent to the Krestovsky Island from the side of the Neva Bay (eastern part of the Gulf of Finland)
– In Kazan in the water area of the Kazanka River from the railway bridge to the Millennium Bridge
– In Moscow in the water area of the Moscow River from the Spassky Bridges to Stroginsky Bridge, as well as in the Moscow Canal from the Moscow River to the Shodnensky Canal.
Russian Ministry of Transport already stepped forward in releasing notice to seafarers in local waterways and affected area of navigation.
