Italian cargo ship Luca S breached after collision with Turkish freighter Erdogan Senkaya at Porto Nogaro

Luca SThe Turkish freighter Erdogan Senkaya collided with berthed Italian general cargo vessel Luca S at Porto Nogaro, Italy. The Turkish vessel was maneuvering in the port, when her bulbous bow stuck into the forecastle starboard area of Luca S, which was docked in the port and preparing to offload cargo of silicon. The Italian general cargo ship suffered breaches and water ingress, following which developed starboard list and fore tilt. The crew ballasted the vessel and started pumping out the water from the forepeak, improving the condition of the ship. There were no reported leaks and water pollution.

The Turkish freighter Erdogan Senkaya suffered only bulbous bow damage without reported water ingress. The both ships were docked for further repairs and inspection. Fortunately during the accident there were no injured people.

The freighter Erdogan Senkaya (IMO: 8857655) has overall length of 75.80 m, moulded beam of 8.50 m and maximum draft of 4.00 m. The deadweight of the ship is 2,429 DWT and the gross tonnage is 1,239 GRT. The vessel was built in 1991 by Kacaranlioglu Shipyard in Turkey.

The general cargo vessel Luca S (IMO: 9286712) has length of 100.70 m, beam of 14.00 m and maximum draft of 5.00 m. The vessel has deadweight of 4,815 DWT and gross tonnage of 3,610 GRT. The ship was built in 2004 by Rousse Shipyard in Bulgaria.
