In November 2017, 50 years will pass from the day the flag of the Navy is raised on the cruiser nuclear submarine “K-43” of Project 670 (Scat, Plant No. 701). The boat was built at the Krasnoye Sormovo shipyard (part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation, USC) under the Lazurit Central Design Bureau project and belongs to the second generation of nuclear submarines.
The creation of this super-ship was the biggest achievement of scientific and technical thought, since Project 670 was the world’s first nuclear submarine cruiser with cruise missiles underwater launch. This kind of armament (the Ametist missile system) provided the submarine’s escape to the starting positions without loss of stealth, the missiles were practically invulnerable and could hit any surface target.
To ensure the completion, testing and delivery of nuclear submarines, a set of auxiliary aids was created: the floating ship “Akademik Krylov”, two floating power units, a floating control and dosimetry point, and a lighter.
Completion and testing of nuclear submarines was carried out in a very tense situation at the Northern delivery base, which at that time was headed by Yu.K. Menschikov. The main responsible for the organization of the construction were: the director of the plant, MA Yuriev, the main builder of the plant, KN. Gordeev, responsible sender FG. Preobrazhensky, the main builder of the project V.V. Semashko, Senior Project Engineer KS Startsev, chief mechanic AI. Nakhrov.
November 5, 1967, 3 years 5 months and 27 days after the laying, in the city of Severodvinsk, the chairman of the State Commission, Vice-Admiral A.I. Sorokin signed the act of acceptance.
After 35 years, the general director of the plant “Krasnoye Sormovo” NS. Zharkov, who at that time was in charge of responsible work to eliminate comments on the results of factory and state tests of the ship at sea, rallying a team of testers to perform the most difficult tasks, responded to the journalist’s question about the happiest day in his life: “This is November 5, 1967, when the act on the transfer of the Navy to the first Sormovo nuclear submarine was signed. “
In just 10 years, the plant built 11 ships of the project 670, which successfully served in the Northern and Pacific fleets, becoming a shield for the country and a threat to the potential enemy.
On November 7, 2017, JSC “Central Design Bureau” Lazurit “, which designed this unique underwater cruiser, held a conference dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Navy’s delivery of the main nuclear submarine of Project 670.
The conference was attended by workers and veterans of PJSC “Zavod Krasnoye Sormovo”. Yuri Konstantinovich Menchshchikov, who currently heads the public council of the museum of the history of the Krasnoye Sormovo plant, shared his memories of the heroic work of his colleagues who built the first Sormovo nuclear-powered ship.
