Criminal Code of Russian Federation Opened Criminal Investigation Into Crash of Russian Helicopter Near Spitsbergen

The North-Western Investigation Department on Transport of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation on the communication from the media about the crash of a Russian helicopter near Spitsbergen with eight Russian citizens on board and other verification materials a criminal case was initiated on the basis of the crime provided for in part 3 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (violation of the rules of traffic safety and operation of air transport, which caused the death of more than two persons). This is reported by the press service of the department.

According to preliminary data, on October 26, 2017, a Mi-8 AMT helicopter crashed near the coast of Spitsbergen Island of the Kingdom of Norway, with five crew members and three passengers on board.

Helicopter Crash Investigation

In the North-West Investigation Department of Transport, an operational meeting was immediately held, an agreed plan of investigative and operational measures was developed.

The course of the investigation of the criminal case is under the control of the head of the Investigation Department.
