China Merchants Industry Holding (CMIH) and DNV GL signed an agreement on strategic partnership in shipbuilding. The contract was concluded during the Nor-Shipping 2017 trade fair in Oslo. The companies will cooperate in the construction of gas carriers, fleets for offshore platforms and specialized vessels to optimize the construction process and quality control in accordance with the various requirements for vessels exhibited in these segments. The agreement covers cooperation in matters of classification, regulation, as well as in research and development and training of personnel.
China Merchants Industry Holdings (CMIH) is a subsidiary of China Merchants Group, headquartered in Hong Kong and is responsible for the management of assets in the marine industry on behalf of the Group. CMIH owns powerful shipyards, and its main activities include the construction of large specialized vessels, marine equipment and all types of repairs and conversions.
DNV GL is one of the three leading organizations in the world for certification. The classification society was created as a result of the merger on September 12, 2013 between two companies – DNV and GL. In addition to certification and marine certification services, the company provides classification and advisory services for the oil and gas industry, renewable energy and energy efficiency. The company also develops its own software, provides independent expert opinions for the marine and energy industries. DNV GL operates in 100 countries, with a staff of 16,000 people.
