The “Densimo”, 2421 ts(EU-No.: 02327312), being bound from Duisburg to Amsterdam, collided with a bridge spanning the Rhine-Herne-Canal in the evening of Sep 21, 2017. The fire rescue was alerted to the accident site at the power station Herne at 8.45 p.m.
The accommodation block of the unloaded barge was severely damaged, the wheelhouse destroyed and the ship disabled. As it was initially unclear whether someone had fallen into the canal, divers were called.
But it turned out that the crew of four was uninjured. The disabled barge was pulled into a nearby canal port by a tug. The ship traffic on the canal was barred until Sep 22 at 1.30 a.m. The bridge suffered only slight damage.
