US federal Bureau of Ocean Energy Management open tender for 9,118 offshore blocks in Gulf of Mexico

Gulf of Mexico offshoreThe US federal agency Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) open tender for concession of the offshore blocks in continental shelf of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. The tender includes 9,118 blocks with total with total area of 186,000 sq km. The blocks are ranging from depth of 2.70 to 3,380.00 m. located from 3 to 230 nautical miles offshore. The federal Bureau of Ocean Energy Management released the Notice of Final Sale in the Gulf of Mexico for the last installment of the current 5-year lease plan which ends in 2017 (Lease Sale Number 247), initiated by President Barack Obama.

“The sale will include all available unleased areas in the Central Planning Area (CPA) managed by the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, amounting to more than 48 million acres (186,000 sq km) offshore Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama for oil and gas exploration and development”, says the official statement of BOEM.

The previous 11 sales in the current 5-year plan brought into the US Treasury almost 3 billion USD from oil and gas companies.
