The tug Dabo 5 was abandoned by the crew after water ingress in engine room in Riau archipelago waters. The vessel was en route from Tanjungpinang, Bintan island to Batam island, but engine compartment started flooding and crew was unable to get control over the water. The pumping was unsuccessful and all the seamen abandoned the vessel into a life raft and sent distress signal to the local authorities. The nearby fishermen found the raft and rescued all the seven crew. There is no report about injuries from the distressed people, but tug Dabo 5 partially sank near the waters of Riau archipelago.
The local authorities started investigation for the root cause of the accident and took witness evidences from the crew. Currently there is no report about water pollution, as vessel is not fully submerged, but on board there are several tons of HFO. The authorities and company operator consider salvage operation, but tug might sank in any moment due to low stability and water ingress.
