Royal Caribbean announced plans to build a new cruise terminal at Port Miami, USA. Previously Royal Caribbean has signed an agreement with the county of Miami-Dade County to build and operate a new terminal on a rented area of land. The terminal with area of 16,000 sq m will be built until 2018. The Miami terminal will be the largest cruise terminal and Royal Caribbean will make it home port for ships Royal Caribbean International, including one of the Oasis-class ships with a capacity of 5,400 passengers.
The Mayor of County Miami-Dade, Carlos Gimenez, said that the terminal will be built on the principles of public-private partnership. The economic effect of the project is estimated at 500 million USD, while its implementation will create 4,000 jobs.
Port Miami is currently taking about 750,000 passengers per year from the cruises of Royal Caribbean , representing about 15% of the passenger traffic of the company. The company predicts that with the launch of Royal Caribbean passenger traffic terminal through Miami will increase to 1.8 million passengers, “that is not less than 30% of the projected passenger port”.
