Port of Astrakhan will make 5 million USD investments during the next 5 years in improvement of the infrastructure and terminal facilities. The port plans expansion of the gran terminal capacity, purchasing of tugs and cargo handling equipment. Also the port plans ordering of new 40-tons cargo crane, which should improve the rate speed of cargo handling. Currently the port has some difficulties with registration of the land for the expansion of infrastructure, but the Governor instructed the Industry Ministry and the regional city administration to control the resolution of this issue.
“During the next five years we plan expansion of port facilities. The estimated amount of investment for five years are 5 million USD, including purchasing of two ships, cargo handling equipment, 40-ton port crane, as well as expansion of capacity of the grain terminal from 35,000 to 73,000 tons”, said the general director of Astrakhan port, Kim Mamikonian.
Port of Astrakhan is located in southern Russia and the administrative center of Astrakhan district. The port is owned by Iranian companies and generates turnover of 800,000 tonnes. In 2016, the port’s management plans to maintain these volumes. Port of Astrakhan has terminals for processing of grain, metal and timber. The capacity of the port 1.5 million tons per year. The port is important connection of Russian through Caspian Sea with Iran.
