Bulk carrier Fair Ocean ran aground in Parana river

Fair Ocean shipThe bulk carrier Fair Ocean ran aground in Parana river near San Nicolas, Argentina. The vessel was en route from Punta Cardon in Venezuela under ballast, but lost propulsion power and hardly stuck into a mud shallow south from San Nicolas de los Arroyos. The crew was unable to refloat the vessel by own power and reported the accident to the local authorities. At the scene of the grounded bulker Fair Ocean was dispatched rescue boat, which should estimate the damages received from the grounding and to consider the salvage operation. There is no additional information about the vessel’s condition, but there is no report about injuries and water pollution.

The local authorities started investigation for the root cause of the grounding. According to preliminary information, the vessel did not suffered underwater breaches and serious damages and can be refloated at high tide.

The bulk carrier Fair Ocean (IMO: 9652480) has overall length of 179.00 m, moulded beam of 28.00 m and maximum draft of 6.40 m. The deadweight of the ship is 33,329 DWT and the gross tonnage is 21,220 GRT. The bulk carrier Fair Ocean was built in 2013 by Shin Kurushima Onishi shipyard in Imabari, Japan. The owner and operator of the vessel is Japanese company Yano Kaiun.
