Bulk carrier CMB Eduard collided with catamaran yacht in Bosphorus

CMB Eduard shipThe bulk carrier CMB Eduard collided with catamaran yacht Moby Dick in Bosphorus near the Arnavutkoy area. The cargo ship was proceeding in northern direction en route from Guatemala to Ilyichevsk, Ukraine, when her route was crossed by the yacht after last minute maneuver. The both vessels collided and catamaran boat suffered sufficient damages and some passengers fell overboard. According to preliminary information one of the people on board of the catamaran yacht Moby Dick drowned, but officials did not confirmed the information yet. The bulk carrier CMB Eduard suffered slight damages, but proceeded to Kumkoy anchorage by own power, where was detained for further investigation and safety inspection.

The local authorities started investigation for the root cause of the collision. The yacht was seriously damaged, but remained afloat with water ingress and towed to berth in Bosphorus. According to preliminary information, the yacht crossed the route of the bulk carrier from starboard, but maneuvered in very last moment. There are no injured people from the crew of bulk carrier CMB Eduard.

The bulk carrier CMB Eduard (IMO: 9559690) has overall length of 180.00 m, moulded beam of 28.00 m and maximum draft of 10.20 m. The deadweight of the ship is 32,648 DWT and the gross tonnage is 20,846 GRT. The bulk carrier was built in 2010 by Jiangsu Zhenjiang Shipyard in China. The owner and operator of CMB Eduard is Chinese company Anglo Eastern Shipmanagement.
